The media has an interesting view of beauty. If you look at magazines and TV, you will see flawless skin, youth, long legs, large breasts, and flowing hair. This all seems so superficial to me. Don't get me wrong. I can appreciate someone who has physical beauty. However, I think you really need to know someone to see their beauty. It's the whole package for me.
You have read about my Party Town friends. I think that they are beautiful. I love who they are inside. This makes them even more attractive outside. When I look at them, I see their inner beauty shining through their eyes and smiles. Do you have someone in your life who is older? I find them so beautiful. Their wisdom and experience with life shines through. It animates their features.
I love to get people to talk about themselves and their interests. Watch them closely. Their faces take on a liveliness as if a spark was lit inside of them. They move their hands and gesture more frequently. Their passion is apparent in their whole being. I believe that is when you see their true beauty. Sometimes they may share sadness at a loss in their life; there is a particular beauty in their sharing as well.
I don't think we take the time to really look at people. We live in such a busy, fast-paced world that only allows us to see superficial beauty. That's why it meant so much when two friends I haven't seen for a while told me that I was beautiful this weekend. Yes, I have lost a lot of weight, but these friends really know me. We have been friends for years and have gone through a lot together. When they told me that I was beautiful, I understood that they were looking at the whole package. What a gift it is to feel beautiful!
Take a few moments to really look at those around you. See them for who they are: inside and out. You will be amazed at the beauty that surrounds you. Be sure to take the next step and tell them how beautiful they are. You will see their beauty even more when they smile!
Have you found your joy today?
