30 Days of Beauty-Day 14: Lawn Bowling

Have you ever done lawn bowling?  It is a lot of fun.  I always forget how much fun you can have playing it.  I'm not sure if it is the game or if it is the company you keep during the game that makes it so fun.

Tonight I went out with my friends from HR.  One of the downsides of retirement is that I miss seeing and interacting with them on a daily basis.  They are great people and lots of fun!  We met at a fantastic place: Brit's Pub in downtown Minneapolis.  If you have never been there, I would encourage it.  It is in the middle of downtown and has rooftop lawn bowling surrounded by office buildings.  I love going there.  Seeing that green lawn in the midst of steel and concrete is amazing!

There is an art to lawn bowling.  You throw this small white ball down the lawn and then have to get your ball closest to it.  You play with two teams and have fascinating discussions about who is closest.  Sometimes you have to borrow the measuring tape from the attendant to make a final determination.  It sounds pretty straightforward, but there is a twist.  The balls are weighted on one side.  It is fun and challenging!

What I particularly enjoy is the camaraderie of those playing!  There is a unique beauty in the cheering on of teammates and the ribbing of opponents.  It is a great time to have quick private conversations with friends while enjoying the weather, a drink of choice, and the challenge of the sport.  I can't think of a better way to spend a summer evening with friends.  When you are finished, you can join other friends who have been there to cheer you on for a bite to eat.  We had the best time!

Have you found your joy today?
