30 Days of Beauty-Day 5: Rain

I woke up this morning to the sounds of rain dripping from the roof.  I like the sound of rain.  I find it very soothing.  As I lay there listening, it brought back many memories of rain.

When I was very young, I loved playing in the rain.  I grew up in Miami, Florida.  There was a rainy season each year when the rain would pour down and the streets would flood.  I loved this time of year.  I always got a new umbrella to use when I walked to school.  I would jump in the puddles and laugh with my friends.  The elementary schools in Florida had open hallways.  You would walk out of the classroom into a hallway that was covered but open to a courtyard.  Our classroom had jalousy windows all along the outside wall so you could see outside.  I can remember watching the rain come down while in the classroom, but what I particularly loved was walking down the hallway when it rained.  The rain would flow off the hallway covering making a wall of rain that would splash on you as you walked in line.  There was a certain beauty to the rain that was refreshing.

I also have many memories of walking in the rain when I was at college.  It was fashionable to have see-through umbrellas that would go over your upper body at that time.  I would be inside my little bubble of protection, able to see the world I passed, as I walked to classes.  I also had a yellow raincoat that I would wear.  My husband (boyfriend at the time) was studying photography and took pictures of me walking in the rain with my yellow coat and umbrella.  Even at that age, I couldn't resist jumping in puddles!

We have had so many gray days lately; it was a relief to actually have rain.  There was a particular beauty in the way my mood improved due to the rain today.  I was productive!  I worked out at Curves, got my nails done, and ran several errands.  It was a great day.  I hope you enjoyed your day, too!

Have you found your joy today?
